In an emergency or life threatening situation there is no charge for Coastguard's services as our core purpose is Saving Lives at Sea. If it is just a routine breakdown and you are not a Coastguard Member there will be a charge for services. There is of course no such thing as a routine breakdown... when your engine stops and your best efforts fail to get it started again YOU ARE IN TROUBLE.

TRAIN AS VOLUNTEER RESCUE VESSEL CREW
With our three rescue vessels available 24/7/365, we always need highly trained volunteers to crew our vessels. Whether you're an experienced boatie, or keen to learn, we invest significant amounts of time and effort into training our crew to the very highest standards. On average it takes between one and two years of training to become operational rescue vessel crew. If you think you're up to the challenge, and can commit the time, then please apply through this Coastguard Northern Region page.
HELP COASTGUARD AS A SHORE-BASED VOLUNTEER
Apart from our rescue vessel crew, Coastguard Auckland also relies on a hard-working and dedicated team of shore-based volunteers. If being out on the water isn't your thing, but you still want to help, then apply to be Shore Crew! We always need help with fundraising activities, planning and running events, and general administrative roles. If you've got some time to help out, then drop us a line!
